NEW RECORDING! Got You On My Mind
featuring Madeleine Peyroux and William Galison with special guest Carly Simon
"Got You on My Mind" is the collaboration between singer, guitarist Madeleine
Peyroux and multi-instrumentalist William Galison. Recorded in March of
2003, "Got You on My Mind" features the unmistakable voice of Ms. Peyroux and
the unique harmonica virtuosity and soulful guitar work of Mr. Galison.
William and Madeleine met in the summer of 2002 in Greenwich Village and soon began a
fruitful musical relationship that resulted in numerous short tours of the East
Coast as a duo, and later with a trio and quartet. With this CD, William and
Madi have captured the joy, spontanaeity and sparkling musicianship that have
been delighting audiences at their live performances.
"Got You On My Mind" is an eclectic collection of songs ranging from a
Josephine Baker classic through Willy Dixon and on to Stevie Wonder and John
Lennon, as well as three delightful original songs by William and Madeleine. The
wide variety of material is unified by the unique talents of the two
co-artists, and the beautiful musical synergy they create together. We've
heard this chemistry between Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto, Ella and Louis, Billie and
Lester. Here it is in two young musicians who stand solidly in the present while
honoring the legacy they are building upon.
The accompanying musicians and special guests on this CD are stars in their
own right; Bob Dylan's bassist Tony Garnier and Saturday Night Live's
drummer Sean Pelton play on three tracks. Rod Stewart's Bassist, Conrad Korsch
and Conan O'Brien's drummer James Wormworth perform on the rest.
Speaking of stars, do you recognize the voice of the scorpion in "Shoulda
Known"? Yes, it really is the divine Carly Simon.
There are few fancy studio tricks on this album; it is the honest sound of
eminently honest musicians doing what they love to do. Many of the performances
were "first takes" and the real-time interplay between the musicians is the
magic stuff that most contemporary recordings sadly lack. "Got You On My
Mind" is the real deal, and you will know this the moment you hear its first notes.
"William Galison and Madeleine Peyroux are superb musicians and
"Got You On My Mind" is a delightful and exceptional recording. I am proud
to be associated with it.
The trippy, cinematic journey that is William Galison
and Madeleine Peyroux's new album "Got You On My
Mind", opens with the bright, swinging glee of "Back In
Your Own Backyard"...
